For
a number of years we have been receiving help from two corporations
and we would like to take a little time to tell you about them.
The
Wal-Mart Distribution Center in Loveland has consistently over the years
supplied Wolf with many of the items we
need to keep the rescue running. They have donated damaged items such
as food for the animals as well as general supplies. In addition Wal-Mart
has donated TV's and other items to our auctions. The employees of Wal-Mart
have donated funds from their events and several employees of Wal-Mart
volunteer at the sanctuary. When a Wal-Mart employee volunteers, the
Wal-Mart Foundation makes a contribution to Wolf.
Wolf thanks both the employees of Wal-Mart
and the Wal-Mart Corporation.
The
Pfizer Drug Company has helped Wolf in good
times and bad. During the evacuation for the forest fire, Pfizer donated
Domitor, (a tranquilizing agent) and Antisedan, a reversal agent. Domitor
is by far our tranquilizing agent of choice. We have tried other drugs
in the past but found that they don't work well or cause the wolves
to hallucinate. In addition most of these drugs are not reversible.
The donation of Domitor enabled us to move the animals more safely.
During the past several years Pfizer has contributed several different
types of antibiotics, Rimadyl (for our arthritic animals), Revolution
(for ticks, fleas, heart worm and other parasites), Cestex (to rid our
hunters of tape worms), Nemex and other drugs necessary to keep the
wolves healthy. Over the years, Pfizer has saved Wolf
thousands of dollars on medications enabling us to do more for the wolves.
Wolf thanks Pfizer for the enormous amount
of help they have provided.
Sometimes
rescue and sanctuary work can take a toll on you, emotionally, mentally
and physically. Two things bring me back from feeling I will never accomplish
enough, that I never will be able to make a difference. One of course
is the wolves themselves, the other is the children I have the honor
of meeting while doing educational programs.
Recently
after doing a program for Patti Fochi's third grade class at Wilmore
Davis Elementary School in Wheatridge, I received an envelope in the
mail. Enclosed were poems written as thank you notes by the children.
As I started reading these poems the goose bumps began to raise on my
arms. Then the tears came. The poems were so touching I had to read
them to everyone who came through the door.
If
only the adults would stop and listen to their children. I have room
here to share only two of the poems. One is very sad and one expresses
how these children feel about wolves, the wilderness and all wildlife.
Remember these poems were written by third grade students. If it brings
tears to your eyes or gives you goose bumps perhaps you will pass it
on.
We
will try to put more of these poems on the new web site in the near
future.
I Cry
I cry when
I hear the gun shots
From farmers
And they cry of wolves
They're beautiful animals
Who are not getting treated
The way they should
I feel my heart go down
Way down
When I hear the gun shots
It's like it's to me
And to my heart
The feeling does not feel good inside.

Wolf
Your brothers
Their lives to you
So
You can live
Your howls
Are thankful cries of joy
When you
Run
You are really dancing
To the rhythm of life.

Wolf
is pleased to introduce our new Web Site and Domain. Frank will hopefully
be updating the new site once a month. Emergency notices will be placed
on the site as necessary. Also there are three new pages that will be
added to the site as time allows.
First,
a merchandise page showing all of the items we sell to raise funds.
This page will have a shopping cart feature so items may be purchased
over the net. We believe this site to be very important to our future
as our County Commissioners will no longer allow us to conduct visits
at the Wolf facility. This condition of
course affects the rescue's income.
Second,
a placement page where animals can be listed for adoption. We feel this
is necessary because of the number of animals that we have to turn away
on a yearly basis (over 650 in 2000). In addition, the number limit
that Larimer County has placed on us prevents us from accepting any
animals until we have fewer than 30. We hope this page will help save
the lives of many more animals.
Third,
we will be setting up a page for Members Only. This will be a fun page.
All members will receive a password to get into this page.
We
are additionally hoping to save money on our printing/mailing costs.
Each of our newsletters will be published on the web site. We will then
e-mail those individuals who have indicated that this method will suffice
for their reception of sanctuary news. It also will allow those individuals
to see the photos from the newsletter in color.
If
you have access to the web and don't mind getting your news this way,
please e-mail us with your address and let us know.
