Words from Friends

From Friend To Friend

You're giving me a special gift,
So sorrowfully endowed,
And through these last few cherished days,
Your courage makes me proud.

But really, love is knowing
When your best friend is in pain,
And understanding earth-ly acts
Will only be in vain.

So looking deep into your eyes,
Beyond, into your soul,
I see in you the magic, that will
Once more make me whole.

The strength that you possess,
Is why I look to you today,
To do this thing that must be done,
For it's the only way.

That strength is why I've followed you,
And chose you as my friend,
And why I've loved you all these years…
My partner 'till the end.

Please, understand just what this gift,
You're giving, means to me,
It gives me back the strength I've lost,
And all my dignity.

You take a stand on my behalf,
For that is what friends do.
And know that what you do is right,
For I believe it too.

So one last time, I breathe your scent,
And through your hand I feel,
The courage that's within you,
To now grant me this appeal.

Cut the leash that holds me here,
Dear friend, and let me run,
Once more a strong and steady dog,
My pain and struggle done.

And don't despair my passing,
For I won't be far away,
Forever here, within your heart,
And memory I'll stay.

I'll be there watching over you,
Your ever faithful friend,
And in your memories I'll run
…a young dog once again.

Simply For Us

The echoes of your howl shall ring in the canyon forever
Haunting and beautiful, such a song can never fade
A knowing glimmer in the depth of your eyes burns on
Silent exchanges, justice words can not pay

Everything and nothing are the things that must be spoken
In both our hearts, bonds will never wane
Connected by fate and separated by the unchangeable
Through sorrow, our loss knows pain

Soft moments we spent together I will forever hold dear
The power of your spirit, I shall never forget
A great number so deeply you touched in short time spent
No deeper measure of character, ever I've met

Though we strive to know why the questions fall short
No answer will quell, longing within
Pieces do not always fit together but do not discard
Life's puzzle so complex, learning therein

Breathe deeply and remember always deep in your heart
Life knows no boundaries, transitions alone
Great souls reflect their wonder within yourself always
In time we will meet again, again we will roam

Wolves Cry and Wolves Die

Born into a world that has no place for you
Your spirit wild and free with no place to run
Man has contained the wilderness you need
Causing you to live in captivity until your time is through

You exemplify the strength and power of the wilderness
Intelligence shines brightly from your face and eyes
Hunting for your kind you labored to keep them free
While caring for your own you gave such tenderness

My heart aches that you and your kind will never chase the wind
Buffalo charging across the plains and antelope springing high
Grasses high as the wagons that cross the endless span
Where now you lie beneath the earth while I am left to send

Pleas that your kind be allowed a place where the young can grow
Where concrete and asphalt are not allowed to cover the land
Where majestic creatures such as you can roam again
My plea is that man will allow your kind to replenish and know

We could be walking in your footsteps,
lest we learn…
