Howl-O-Ween Run With The Wolves - 2006
The 6th Annual Howl-O-Ween Run For The Wolves, took place on October 29th. The preparations, although very time-consuming and logistically challenging, were finished. The weather forecast was shaping up to be outstanding, with mid-forties for the start of the run/walk and expected to warm up into the low sixties. Everything was looking great for this major fund-raising event. There was one last question, for which we still had no answer -- what would be the actual turn-out?

As we attended other charitable runs over the last several months, handing out flyers for our run, it became apparent that all of these events were way down in attendance. There was one run which had actually been cancelled due to poor registrations. Another which took place had under a dozen runners. Many more, we were told, had less than half their normal registrations. This obviously, was more than a little concerning and there was no way to discern what was really happening. Pre-registrations, up to the week before the event, had been better than usual, but had fallen flat during the final week.
Wolf ’s wonderful volunteers were certainly stepping up to the plate, arriving at City Park by dawn and having everything ready to go. The free pumpkin patch was ready.
The rubber duckies were swimming in the “Dunkin’ for Duckies” pool. The awards and prizes for the top three finishers in each race category were ready. The outstanding prizes for the top pledge-raisers were set-up for viewing. The course was set, winding around City Park, then through the cemetery, back around the lake to the staging area and the finish. Trick-or-Treat stations were up around the course as well. Race-day registrants were beginning to arrive and everyone was preparing to just have a good time and enjoy the day.
By the time everyone was registered and the race was ready to begin there were just over two hundred runners. Although down from previous runs, this was still a very respectable turn-out. The runners and walkers were on their marks and ready to go -- they were off. Here are the results:
