Build, Build, & Build Some More
In order to accommodate the WideAwake Pack at the Sanctuary, by the beginning of winter, we needed to start building now. We will need to build 6 half-acre habitats, to accommodate them appropriately.
|
 |
Each enclosure runs about 100 feet across the front and 200 feet up the side of the mountain. They have a smaller catch-up area in the front of that, which measures about 20 feet by 50 feet. There is then a double-gated entry way, which has gates that automatically close before reaching the entry into the main habitat area. All fences are 10 feet high, made up of five feet high 9 gauge chain link on the bottom layer and another five feet of less expensive wildlife fencing on top of that. The entire inside perimeter has three feet of chain link laid on the ground, hog-ringed to the bottom of the fence and then secured on the inside edge with logs held to the ground with two-foot rebar.

Each habitat costs approximately $8,000 in materials and labor. Although we have had some wonderful help from volunteers, this kind of undertaking requires a consistent daily effort to accomplish our plan.
We need all the help we can get to make this happen. If you have any ideas, at all, on free or discounted materials, volunteer or low cost labor, foundations who might provide grants, etc. -- PLEASE contact the Sanctuary (970.416.9531).

Because this challenge is so immense and we feel it is important for all of our supporters to realize that every donation counts, we are instituting a special offer. All donations of $10 and above will receive a special bookmark, which was printed for the Waltz.
The artwork is of Spirit who died very unexpectedly last year. It was created and donated by Goldenwolf Studios. The artist knew Spirit personally.
We had an additional supply printed in order to offer this appeal. This offer will last as long as supplies of the bookmarks last.

What A Wonderful Waltz! |
June 23rd came faster than we would have liked it to, but our outstanding volunteers rallied to get everything done in time. They did a fantastic job: the ball room looked great, the auction items were well-organized and people began arriving.

Samantha and Lakota (boy) made their dramatic entrance and proceeded to ham it up with all of the guests. It became apparent that they favored the guests who had treats for them.

| Background music was supplied by Billy Henson on Native American flute and Frank Lechuga singing the oldies. |

We are very grateful to all of the volunteers who helped make this event a very enjoyable evening and profitable fund-raising event. Whether they were out soliciting donations for the auction, helping set up or actually working the event, we could not have done it without their dedication.
