Isis & Mucqua Become A Couple

After Gead’s passing, Mucqua needed a new companion. It can’t be easy being blind and alone. Two females at WideAwake were also solitary and in need of mates, but who would be best for Mucq? We spent days soul-searching and conversing with an animal communicator, who indicated Isis was the best fit. Excitedly, we loaded the truck on December 4th with everything under the sun, and sent Steve and Kiley to WideAwake for Isis. They were met by other volunteers to catch her up and kennel her for the trip. We prefer to corner them rather than use drugs due to their health. The catch up team did great; Isis was in the kennel and on her way to a new home within 30 minutes. Isis and Mucqua would be put together into a new habitat.

Once at Wolf , Mucq was easily caught up when he walked right into a volunteer’s arms. After vaccinations, general exam, and blood draw from the vet, he was placed in a new doghouse with Gead’s blanket to comfort him. Isis was not as easy. She refused to come out of the travel kennel, so a volunteer crawled in it with her and tried to muzzle her. She kept turning her head away from the muzzle, but was very sweet. Finally, the muzzle was on, the volunteer grabbed Isis’s back end, and she was pulled from the kennel. The vet performed another exam, vaccinations, and blood draw before she was off. The humans left quickly to allow her to calm down. Immediately, she was at the fence line with Webster and Menemith, all with wagging tails and whining. This was a great start, but what about poor Mucqua?

By dusk, Mucq had still not come out of the house. Thankfully, he was out the next morning exploring his new territory. Initially, the two showed limited interest in each other. Isis actually appeared to be more interested in Webster, which Menemith took great exception to. After many weeks of adjustment, Isis calmed down significantly. They now seem to be into each other. We have witnessed them lounging together and playing at the fence line with the other animals. Mucqua is acting more like a wolf than we have even seen before. He has started howling, defending his food, and running around the enclosure like crazy trying to find a place to bury a prized chunk of meat. Likewise, Isis enjoys her afternoon naps in the sun, flirting with Webster and digging up what Mucqua has hidden.

Another wonderful note, Isis’s blood results show she is extremely healthy and now free from heartworm disease.
