Our preparations for the County Commissioners Hearing became very difficult as the key expert witness on fire mitigation we were trying to hire, backed out after three weeks of discussions. The company had been trying to contact the Rist Canyon Volunteer Fire Department Chief, in order to discuss his concerns about the expansion. The Chief and the consultant were not able to connect and the consultant did not feel comfortable about proceeding.

It also became apparent that there were still a tremendous number of misconceptions that were being spread and unfortunately believed by county officials. These concerns and the holidays forced us to postpone the date of the hearing. Again unfortunately, the soonest they could reschedule our hearing for was in February.

It has become very obvious that the basis of what is currently happening is a result of a few individuals and their irrational fears concerning wolves. There were only two property owners who voiced any concerns whatsoever up to the Planning Commission Hearing. Suddenly there was a phone campaign initiated by one of these properties and everything changed.

We are now are trying to counteract all of the false statements that were made during that phone campaign. The hysteria that was initiated in few unethical phone calls is now costing us thousands of dollars to rectify.

We are in the process of hiring expert witnesses on fire mitigation, sound dynamics, wolf/wolf-dog behavior, structural engineering and group hysteria.

We likewise have sent out information packages to all of the neighbors within 2.6 miles of the Sanctuary. These packages contain the “FACTS” concerning the Sanctuary and wolf/wolf-dog behavior.
