The Property is located in a very rural and secluded mountain valley on 180 acres owned by Wolf. This setting provides for a calm and secure environment that is very close to what they would choose for themselves in the wild.
The Habitats are designed
to provide a natural home for the wolves. The containment is built to
incorporate as many natural features of this mountain valley as is possible,
yet be safe and secure. The individual habitats range in size from a quarter
of an acre to an acre and a half. A full-time caretaker's cabin is located
on site.
Cabin as seen from the ridge on the other side of the valley (green arrow).
The Safety Features on each habitat incorporate:
Fencing that is eight (8) to ten (10) feet high and three (3) foot dig guards that are attached with metal hog-rings to the bottom of the fencing. These rings are placed approximately every three (3) inches. All corners, with 90˚ or less, are covered to prevent any possibility of climbing.
Gates are self-closing and are built of eight (8) foot fence posts covered in chain link with one (1) self-locking latch and two (2) security latches. Padlocks are kept on all of the gates and locked when chores in the enclosures are finished. Each padlock is designated with a level number, based on the degree of unsociability of the animals within that enclosure and can only be unlocked by volunteers who have been trained and tested to deal with animals of that level.
Entry Ways into the enclosures are built with a double gate entry system that requires one gate to automatically close and latch before the second gate can be opened.
